Mr. Kent's Visit

We were so thrilled to get to host a friend here in Seoul late January. One of Brent's oldest friends, Kent (or Mr. Kent to the boys), spent Lunar New Year with us. We had fun checking out some new things and I think Brent got lots of much needed guys time.

The week before Kent arrived, we got enough snow that our school was cancelled for the day. It really wasn't that much, but it was just enough to play in.

First, Kent got to be a spectator. I coached the boys' basketball teams this year so we spent our Tuesdays and Saturdays at the gym. Go Sixers (how cute for my six year olds?!) and go Heat!

We took Kent to The Korean War Museum- somewhere we sent company but hadn't been to yet.

And no trip is complete without a visit to Seoul Tower.

Kent left a love lock for his fiancĂ©, Heidi, who unfortunately couldn't join him on the trip.

My little churro lovers.

Grant had to get Mr. Kent a tornado potato at our next stop- Myeongdong.

Street food...so yummy.

We even took him to one of our favorite stores to waste our money on.

Sunday, we battled the snow/rain to tour Gyeongbokjung Palace.

Mr. Year of the Goat.

Afterwards, we ducked into the National Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art. We had not seen any of these yet. I was surprised how much the boys enjoyed it!

Hayden watching this pocorn-ish paper thing. There was air under it so it was moving slightly.

Back out in the wet to see Insadong.

We warmed up with a coffee at the Poop Café.

Then we stopped at Jogyesa Temple to say hi to Buddha.

Finally going home. Four boys = snowball fight.

The 2 big boys went skiing Monday Bearstown. This is the only picture Brent took!

Tuesday, I got to take Kent to the fabric market (didn't have to ask me twice!).

He wanted to buy unique Korean fabrics for Heidi. Sorry girls, he's taken.

Then we met our favorite diplomat for lunch (US Embassy in the background).

He took us to eat spicy pork.

And our last excursions was to the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art.

This hallway/staircase was so cool and definitely not fully captured in my picture.

We couldn't take pictures of most of the art in the permanent exhibit. These next several pictures are from a temporary one. But probably the coolest thing about this place was that we were given our own Samsung phone/tablet thing that could sense where we were standing and it would tell us all about the artwork in front of us. No work involved!

Kent modeling in the rain! This place was awesome!

For Kent's last day, we shipped him of to the DMZ. Brent joined Grant's class and all the other mommies on his field trip to go sledding and ice skating.

Last but not least, we watched our babysitter, Molly (& her brother Nick too) play varsity basketball at our school. The boys were in heaven!

So, we've proven that we can host family and friends. Your guest room is waiting & time's running out! Said guest room may be nonexistent in DC!!
